Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown will launch its 2026 City‑Wide Cleanup on Monday, April 27, offering curbside pickup of large and bulky items for residents across the community.
According to the City’s Solid Waste Division, items must be placed on the boulevard during the weekend of April 25–26 and separated into two distinct piles: one for furniture and household goods, and another for appliances and equipment.
As stated in the city’s announcement, “To participate, place items on the boulevard the weekend of April 25–26 in two separate piles: Furniture and household items… [and] Appliances and equipment.”
City officials emphasized that all appliances must be emptied before collection, and refrigerator and freezer doors must be removed. Piles must remain clear of trees, vehicles, and other obstructions, and items that are not prepared correctly will not be collected. The city also noted that crews will make only one pass through each neighborhood and will not return for missed or late‑set items.
The release warns that “Items set out early may result in enforcement under the City’s junk ordinance.”
Several categories of materials are excluded from curbside pickup, including glass of any kind, propane tanks, construction debris, electronics, yard waste, tires, and anything that fits inside a standard garbage container. Residents with questions about curbside collection may contact the Street Division at (605) 882‑6207.
In addition to curbside service, the Watertown Regional Landfill will offer free self‑haul dumping from April 20 through May 2. Residents must bring a recent utility bill showing garbage service, and all loads must be secured to prevent debris from blowing onto roadways. The city notes that “Free self-haul dumping at the Watertown Regional Landfill will be available April 20 through May 2, 2026.”
The City‑Wide Cleanup program is available exclusively to Watertown residents. City officials thanked the community for its cooperation and participation in keeping neighborhoods clean and well‑maintained.
