Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Codington County is nearing its June absentee turnout as voters prepare for Tuesday’s statewide Republican gubernatorial runoff election.
County Auditor Brenda Hanten reports that, as of Friday, July 24, a total of 1,023 absentee ballots have been cast in Codington County. That number is 127 fewer than the 1,150 absentee ballots submitted during the June 2 Primary Election — but Friday alone saw 122 ballots cast, making it possible the county could approach or match the June total before polls open Tuesday.
The runoff election was triggered after no Republican candidate for governor reached the required 35 percent threshold in the June Primary.
