Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Codington County Board of Commissioners approved an amendment to the county’s five-year highway plan during its meeting on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Five-Year Highway Plan Amendment
Commissioners unanimously approved Resolution 2026-21, amending the county’s Five-Year County Highway and Bridge Improvement Plan to add bridge ID #15-190-099 and bridge ID #15-190-111.
Highway Superintendent Randy Falvey explained that both structures are located on County Road 11 (455th Avenue), with one bridge north and one bridge south of Casino Road (164th Street). The routes serve as key haul roads for Northern Con-Ag.
Including the bridges in the official five-year plan is a mandatory requirement to qualify for state Bridge Improvement Grant (BIG) funding this year. Falvey noted that while the structures were already on the county’s radar, adding them now ensures the county can proactively seek grant funding.
Falvey confirmed that adding these two structures does not alter or delay any other bridge projects currently listed in the five-year plan. The motion was made by Commissioner Myron Johnson and seconded by Commissioner Tyler McElhany
