Codington County Vital Records, Marriage License Services Paused Sept. 14–17 in Watertown

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD — The Codington County Register of Deeds Office is alerting residents to a temporary service interruption next week as the state transitions to a new Vital Records system.
Due to an oversight connected to the statewide launch, local Register of Deeds offices will not be able to issue Vital Records or marriage licenses from September 14 through September 17, 2026. The office says the pause is necessary while the new system is implemented.
In the notice, the Register of Deeds states,
“Register of Deeds Offices will be unable to issue Vital Records as well as issuing marriage licenses from September 14 through September 17, 2026.”
The office adds,
“We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary service interruption may cause.”
Residents who have an emergency need for a Vital Record during the four‑day window are asked to contact the State Vital Records Office at 605‑773‑4961 for assistance.
The Codington County Register of Deeds Office is located at 14 1st Ave SE in Watertown and can be reached at 605‑882‑6278.
