Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Codington County Highway Department will soon receive a high-performance equipment upgrade following a unanimous vote by the Commissioners to approve the purchase of a new crack sealing machine.
Highway Superintendent Randy Falvey presented two bids to the board for consideration: one from Crafco, Inc. ($78,415.65) and another from Midstates Equipment & Supply ($83,277.00). Both bids utilized Sourcewell, a government cooperative purchasing program.
Falvey recommended the Crafco 44100 Supershop 250D, noting that the department’s current machine is 13 years old.
“The machine we currently have is 13 years old; life expectancy on them is about 10 years,” Falvey explained. “We definitely take seal and crack in the county seriously.”
The purchase was a budgeted item for 2026. The new machine will be used extensively in the spring to blow out, clean, and seal road cracks with rubber to extend the lifespan of county asphalt.
