Northeast Radio SD News - Gary, SD - A two-vehicle collision at a rural intersection sent one driver to a Sioux Falls hospital late Monday afternoon.

The Deuel County Sheriff’s Office reports that emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of South Dakota Highway 22 and 486th Avenue at approximately 4:05 p.m. on January 12.

According to the preliminary investigation, a semi-tractor (bobtail) was traveling southbound on 486th Avenue. The driver of the semi reportedly stopped at the posted stop sign before proceeding into the intersection.

However, the semi driver failed to see an eastbound silver passenger car traveling on SD Highway 22. The vehicle collided with the semi-tractor’s rear tandem tires.

The driver of the silver car sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. Deuel County Ambulance’s Gary station initially transported the driver to Sanford Clear Lake. The Clear Lake ambulance station later transferred the driver to a hospital in Sioux Falls for further treatment.

Two passengers in the silver car and the driver of the semi-tractor were uninjured in the accident.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Gary Fire Department, the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and two stations of the Deuel County Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office.
