Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Cain Everson and Lincoln Schutt anchored a relentless offensive attack Friday night to propel Watertown Post 17 to a 9-3 victory over Rapid City Post 320.
The matchup was the opening half of a scheduled doubleheader, but the nightcap was ultimately called off due to severe weather moving through the Rapid City area.
Watertown’s bats were dialed in early and often. Everson sparked the Arrows’ offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Schutt was flawless in the box, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI. Carter Buisker and Tripp Jorgenson also made significant contributions, tallying two hits apiece to keep the pressure on the Rapid City defense.
On the mound, Hunter Halajian delivered a commanding complete-game performance to secure the win. Halajian worked all seven innings, allowing just three runs on four hits while retiring six batters on strikes.
For the Stars, the offense struggled to find a consistent rhythm against Halajian. Tegan Sayles, Colton Sayles, Colton Mehlhaff, and Max Speed recorded one hit each, while Mehlhaff, Speed, and Anders Lockhart accounted for the team’s three RBIs.
Burke Eschmeyer took the loss for Rapid City 320. The starter surrendered eight runs on eight hits across 4 2/3 innings of work, though only three of those runs were earned.
With the win, Watertown Post 17 improves to 29-16 overall and 14-8 in league play. The Arrows will look to keep their momentum rolling as they continue their Black Hills road trip on Saturday. They are slated to face Rapid City Post 22 in a doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. MDT.
