Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - he ultimate local showdown is back as the Watertown Police Department and Watertown Fire Rescue prepare to face off for the milestone 25th Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive. This friendly competition invites the community to roll up their sleeves and cast a vote for their favorite first responders while providing critical support for local patients.
Competition with a Cause
The event serves as a critical lifeline during the winter months when blood supplies often reach dangerously low levels. Every donation supports patients at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System, and for every pint given, donors cast a vote for either the Police or Fire department. The winning team will take home the traveling trophy and earn bragging rights for the next year.
“I am grateful for Watertown’s incredible support over 25 years of this event, which has generated over 2,900 donations and brought hope to thousands of community patients,” said Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank.
The drive will be held at the Watertown Event Center (1901 9th Ave. SW) over two days in February:
· Wednesday, Feb. 11: 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
· Thursday, Feb. 12: 7:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. & 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
To thank donors for their time, everyone who participates will receive a substantial thank-you package:
· An official event t-shirt.
· $15 Hy-Vee gift card and $5 Beef Bucks.
· $10 E-30 gift card (courtesy of Glacial Lakes Energy).
· Entry into drawings for a Prime Rib or one of four $100 Beef Bundles.
