Northeast Radio SD News – Hamlin County, SD: The Hamlin FFA chapter is one of only 10 programs across the state selected to receive a new set of official blue corduroy jackets, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of student participation in agricultural leadership.
The South Dakota FFA Foundation announced the grant following a competitive application process. Each selected chapter will receive a set of ten jackets to be owned by the chapter, allowing members who may not be able to finance their own “team uniform” to borrow them for official events, competitions, and conventions.
A Symbol of Pride for Hamlin Students
For FFA members, the blue corduroy jacket is more than just a piece of apparel; it is a physical reminder of personal accomplishment and a symbol of dedication to the future of agriculture. However, the cost can be a hurdle for some families.
“Having chapter-owned jackets will help encourage students to become involved and give FFA a try,” said Gerri Ann Eide, Executive Director of the SD FFA Foundation. “They can experience the pride, dignity, and honor of wearing a blue corduroy FFA jacket, as well as be inspired to become more involved and purchase their own jacket.”
Community Support Makes the Difference
The funding for the jackets was made possible through the South Dakota Day of Giving and Giving Tuesday. The initiative received a significant boost from a matching grant provided by the Wendy Mortenson Agency/American Family Insurance, along with prizes won during the state’s Day of Giving campaign.
The Hamlin chapter joins a select group of recipients this year, including the Langford Area and the Frederick Area.
The SD FFA Foundation continues to support over 10,000 students statewide, focusing on career awareness in agri-business and leadership development. For the students in Hamlin, these ten new jackets represent a long-term investment in the next generation of local agricultural leaders.
