Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - On Saturday, June 13th, over 170 runners and walkers gathered for the 29th Annual Hospital Hill Run. Hosted by Prairie Lakes Healthcare System, the event generated $2,000 to support the ongoing mission of the Prairie Lakes Caring Club House.
Participants enjoyed a sunny morning of fitness and community spirit, which featured multiple events: a 5K run, a 5K walk, a one-mile kids run, and a one-mile walk open to all ages.
In addition to event participation proceeds, attendees generously donated items from the Caring Club House wish list. Participants were encouraged to bring household essentials such as paper towels, cleaning supplies, canned goods, tall kitchen trash bags, microwave popcorn, and travel toothpaste. Those who donated at least one item on race day were rewarded with five extra door prize tickets. The community’s generosity continued during the post-race awards ceremony, where anonymous attendees contributed over $300 in additional cash donations.
The Prairie Lakes Caring Club House serves as a convenient “home away from home” for out-of-town patients, their families, and caregivers traveling to Watertown for healthcare services. The facility provides lodging for as little as $10 per night. Because the Caring Club House has annual operating expenses exceeding $17,000, it relies entirely on community donations and support to remain funded and furnished.
The successful 2026 run was made possible by the Hospital Hill Run Committee and a variety of local sponsors. Sponsors for the event included Community Blood Bank/Avera, Big Stone Therapy, Glacial Lakes Kennel, Harmony Hill/Sanford, Reliabank, Dakota Portable Toilets, Inc., Beef Logic, Inc./BL Johnson Beef, and Fast Threads.
All donations made to the facility are appreciated and tax-deductible as allowed by law. To make a financial contribution or to learn more about volunteer opportunities at the Caring Club House, please get in touch with Foundation Coordinator Ashlyn Lemme at 605-882-7716.
