Northeast Radio SD News - Castlewood, SD - Icy road conditions contributed to a two-vehicle injury crash early Friday morning northwest of Castlewood, according to the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 81 and 179th Street at approximately 5:52 a.m. on Jan. 16.

A preliminary investigation by the Sheriff’s Office indicates that a vehicle was traveling eastbound while exiting a private driveway. Due to the icy surface, the driver was unable to stop, causing the vehicle to slide onto U.S. Highway 81. It then collided with a second vehicle that was traveling southbound on the highway. The impact sent the southbound vehicle into the east ditch.
