Northeast Radio SD News – Lake Norden, SD - An 86-year-old Wichita, Kansas, woman was safely located in Hamlin County on Thursday afternoon after being the subject of a multi-state Silver Alert.
At approximately 3:59 p.m., a Hamlin County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 81 near 194th Street, roughly one mile north of Lake Poinsett. The vehicle was stopped for lane driving violations. During the stop, the deputy identified the driver as the individual sought in a Silver Alert issued by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Kansas authorities confirmed the woman had last been seen in the St. Joseph, Missouri, area at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Following the identification, the woman was transported by Lake Norden Ambulance to a local hospital for a precautionary evaluation. Officials stated that arrangements have been made to reunite her with her family.
The Silver Alert program was established by the Kansas Legislature in 2009 to assist in the recovery of missing seniors. According to the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, the protocol is a voluntary process designed to help locate individuals aged 65 or older, or those with dementia, by coordinating efforts between law enforcement and media outlets.
