Northeast Radio SD News – Pierre, SD / Watertown, SD - Lake Area Technical College (LATC) is inviting the community to explore the future of healthcare education at its newly remodeled nursing simulation lab. The college will host a public open house at the Capitol City Campus in Pierre to showcase the facility’s significant upgrades and high-tech training capabilities.

Event Details

The open house is scheduled for April 14 and is open to community members, healthcare partners, and prospective students.

·        Time: 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

·        Dedication Program: 4:30 p.m.

·        Location: Capitol City Campus, 925 E. Sioux Ave., Pierre, S.D.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facility and see firsthand how the new technology supports hands-on training for the next generation of nurses.

Cutting-Edge Training for Central South Dakota

The renovation was made possible through a grant from Avera Health, aimed at expanding high-quality healthcare education throughout the state. The lab now features:

·        Advanced Manikins: Sophisticated tools that replicate complex clinical situations.

·        Immersive Simulations: High-tech medical equipment and environments that mirror real-world hospital settings.

·        Enhanced Technology: Upgraded systems designed to provide nursing students with realistic, hands-on experience before they enter the workforce.

“We’re excited about this project and are thankful for the support shown by Avera,” said Tiffany Sanderson, President of Lake Area Technical College. “It allows us to expand access to healthcare education in central South Dakota and provide nursing professionals for our communities and facilities of all sizes.”

Supporting Local Students

The Capitol City Campus currently serves 23 nursing students. These students are able to complete all their classroom instruction in Pierre, only traveling to the main Watertown campus for a limited number of skill checks. This local access is vital for training professionals to serve in rural and central South Dakota communities.
