Millbank Man Hospitalized After Severe Hypothermia Encounter in Brookings Alley

Northeast Radio SD News - Brookings, SD - A 23-year-old Millbank man was hospitalized Saturday morning after being discovered in a downtown alley suffering from a severe medical emergency related to hypothermia.


According to the Brookings Police Department, a 911 call was received at approximately 7:31 AM on February 21, 2026. The caller reported a male subject in need of medical assistance in the alleyway between Office Peeps and Foss Studio, which connects 3rd Street and Front Street.


Officers arrived on the scene and assisted Brookings Ambulance with the initial response. The man was first transported to Brookings Hospital for stabilization. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls for advanced patient treatment.


Chief of Police Michael J. Drake confirmed the subject is a resident of Millbank, South Dakota. No further information regarding his current status has been released at this time.
