Northeast Radio SD News - Hamlin County, SD - As the calendar turns to 2026, the race for Hamlin County Sheriff has officially taken shape with two local candidates announcing their intentions to lead the county’s law enforcement efforts for the upcoming term.

Schlotterbeck Announces Reelection Bid

On New Year’s Day, current Sheriff Chad Schlotterbeck officially announced his run for reelection. Reflecting on the past year, Schlotterbeck expressed gratitude for the support of Hamlin County residents and praised his current staff’s dedication.

“We have worked hard in the service of our residents and would like to continue to serve all of you in the next term,” Schlotterbeck stated in his announcement. His campaign message emphasized a continued commitment to service as the county moves into 2026.

Sauder Enters the Race

Following Schlotterbeck’s announcement, community member Isaac Sauder declared his candidacy for the position on January 7. Sauder stated that his decision to run came after extensive conversations with residents and a desire to ensure a safe environment for future generations.

Sauder’s platform focuses on the foundational elements of community policing. “The role of Sheriff is about more than enforcement — it’s about trust, communication, and being present for the people we serve,” Sauder noted. He pledged to lead with integrity and transparency while working alongside deputies to keep the county connected and safe.
