Northeast Radio SD News – Thomas, SD - A new public access site on Clear Lake in Hamlin County is officially open, offering major improvements for anglers who frequent one of the region’s most popular fisheries.

The access opened on July 17 and was made possible through a partnership between a willing landowner and the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP), which secured an access agreement lease to move the project forward.

According to GFP, the new site includes a small plank boat ramp, a roll‑in dock, ample parking, paved highway access, and strong water depth to make loading and launching easier for boaters.

GFP credited the project’s success to cooperation across multiple groups, including private landowners, conservation officers, habitat and access crews, and anglers whose Habitat Stamp contributions help fund improvements like this.

Clear Lake, located near Thomas, is a heavily used fishery. GFP says the new access will enhance safety, convenience, and long‑term usability for the public.
