Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown Public Works Department will begin Phase 2 of the 2026 Neighborhood Street Reconstruct Project on 5th Avenue North starting Monday, April 27.

The work will run through September 11, 2026, pending weather and unforeseen issues. City officials note that the project will not affect City‑Wide Cleanup, and residents should still set items out by Monday, April 27.

Phase 1 remains closed from Broadway Street to U.S. Highway 81, while Phase 2 will close Skyline Drive from Broadway Street to U.S. Highway 81. Crews plan to keep 3rd Street NW open until after May 20, when possible. Either Broadway Street or Maple Street will remain open for the duration of the project.

The reconstruction includes new roadway surfacing, curb and gutter, sidewalks, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main replacement along 5th Avenue North from Skyline Drive to 4th Street NE/Hwy 81. Crossroads will stay open when possible to allow local traffic to cross, but residents are asked to avoid parking on 5th Avenue North and use side‑street parking instead.

Driveway access will be limited during underground work, though contractors will provide access whenever feasible. The city reminds motorists to observe all traffic control devices and flaggers near construction areas.
