Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Prairie Lakes Healthcare System (PLHS) has announced the promotion of Caitlin Broek to the role of Director of Information Technology (IT) and Clinical Informatics.
A Watertown native with over 15 years of healthcare experience, Broek’s career trajectory at Prairie Lakes serves as a testament to her deep roots within the organization and the community. She first joined the PLHS team in 2010 as a Care Tech on the Medical/Surgical/Pediatric floor.
Since then, she has transitioned through several progressive leadership roles, most recently serving as the Applications and Informatics Manager.
A New Era of Technical Leadership
In her new capacity, Broek will provide strategic oversight for four critical departments:
· Information Technology
· Applications
· Informatics
· Biomedical
Her primary focus remains on managing enterprise technology systems that support both clinical and business operations. By ensuring these systems are safe, secure, and reliable, Broek plays a pivotal role in maintaining the high standard of patient care for which Prairie Lakes is known.
“I’m honored to step into this role and continue serving Prairie Lakes in a new capacity,” Broek stated. “My career began at the bedside, and that experience continues to shape how I approach technology and leadership. I’m looking forward to advancing our technology systems and supporting our transition to Epic as part of Sanford Health.”
Clinical Expertise Meets Technical Innovation
Broek is uniquely qualified to bridge the gap between patient care and technical infrastructure. She is board-certified in Nursing Informatics and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Organizational and Systems Leadership.
Outside of her professional and academic pursuits, Broek remains active in the Watertown community. She is an avid fan of the outdoors—enjoying camping and hiking—and cherishes time spent with her husband and two sons.
As Prairie Lakes moves forward with its significant transition to the Epic electronic health record system in collaboration with Sanford Health, Broek’s dual background in bedside nursing and informatics is expected to be a cornerstone of the project’s success.
