Northeast Radio SD News – Revillo, SD - Emelia Enquist of Revillo has officially announced her candidacy for the South Dakota House of Representatives, seeking to represent the constituents of District 4. Enquist’s platform focuses on a vision for a thriving South Dakota built on economic development, rural community support, and assistance for families.

A Vision Based on Cooperation

In her announcement, Enquist emphasized a commitment to the values she sees reflected in the local community.

“In this work, I’m relying on what already exists in District 4: honest and earnest people who value cooperation, responsibility, and common sense,” Enquist said. “When we are at our best, we take care of one another. We look out for everybody’s best interests. We value each other not as partisan allies or foes, but as friends and neighbors”.

Professional and Community Background

Enquist currently serves the region as a minister for three congregations: Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg, Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo, and Zoar Lutheran Church in rural Revillo.

Beyond her ministry, she has a diverse professional background:

·         Journalism: She was named the 2023 South Dakota NewsMedia Association’s Outstanding Young Journalist for a Weekly Publication for her contributions to the Grant County Review.

·         Communications: She spent 10 years in marketing and advertising, working with organizations such as the South Dakota Department of Health, the South Dakota Department of Social Services, and the South Dakota Democratic Party.

·         Education: She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication with a music minor from Drury University and is currently enrolled in a master of Arts program in systematic theology at Luther Seminary.

The Race for District 4

Enquist enters the race as the only Democratic candidate. She is running against five Republican opponents who are vying for the two available House seats in the district. The final Republican ballot will be determined during the June primary.

District 4 comprises Deuel, Grant, and Hamlin Counties, along with portions of Clark, Roberts, and rural Codington Counties.

The race for South Dakota’s District 4 House of Representatives features six candidates vying for two available seats. Emelia Enquist of Revillo is the sole Democratic candidate in the field. She is running against five Republican candidates: incumbents Dylan Jordan and Kent Roe, as well as challengers Fred Deutsch, Gary Hudiburgh, and Ryan Kohl. While Enquist will proceed to the general election, the June primary will narrow the Republican field down to two nominees who will then face her on the November ballot.

The primary election is June 2, 2026
