Northeast Radio SD News – Hayti, SD - The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) has announced it is seeking input from the local community and stakeholders on a proposed reconstruction project for a vital section of South Dakota Highway 21.

The upcoming project targets S.D. Highway 21 starting from the intersection of S.D. Highway 28 extends north into the city of Hayti.

To facilitate discussion and gather feedback, SDDOT will host a public meeting open house on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Lake Norden Community Center, located at 520 Main Ave. The open house will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The event is designed as an informal setting for the public to connect directly with SDDOT design staff. A brief formal presentation will be delivered shortly after the meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Following the presentation, SDDOT staff will be available at various display stations to discuss specific aspects of the proposed grading, surfacing, and box-culvert project and answer questions.

This reconstruction effort follows a prior public meeting held by the SDDOT project development office in 2021, during which initial design options were discussed.

SDDOT officials are encouraging all interested parties to attend to learn more about the project and provide input that will help shape the final plans. For those who are unable to attend the in-person meeting, comprehensive project details and presentation materials are available online at https://dot.sd.gov/projects-studies/projects/public-meetings#hayti-hwy21.

The community will have the opportunity to submit written comments both at the public meeting and through the project website. The comment period will remain open until Friday, April 10, 2026.
