SDDOT to Host Public Meeting for Highway 28 Bridge Replacement Near Lake Poinsett

Northeast Radio SD News – Lake Poinsett, SD - The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed project to replace a bridge structure on S.D. Highway 28. Area residents, commuters, and business owners are invited to attend a public meeting and open house to learn more about the project and provide feedback.
The project focuses on the bridge structure located three miles east of U.S. Highway 81, where Highway 28 crosses the Lake Poinsett Inlet near Stone Bridge.
Meeting Details The open house is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Hamlin County 4-H Building, located at 310 Pheasant Ave. in Hayti.
The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., beginning with a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. Following the presentation, the format will be informal, allowing attendees to engage in one-on-one discussions with SDDOT design staff.
Project Scope and Public Participation SDDOT representatives will be on hand to discuss the proposed design, answer questions, and gather community input. Information regarding the acquisition of right-of-way and relocation assistance will also be available.
According to the SDDOT, the project is being developed in compliance with both state and federal environmental regulations.

Deadlines and Accommodations: The department will accept written comments through Friday, May 8, 2026.
