Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - 4 the Kids SD brought its sixth annual Snack Attack to Watertown schools on Friday afternoon, delivering more than 10,300 individually wrapped snacks to students across the district. Deliveries began at 1:30 p.m. on April 17, with volunteers from Lake Area Technical College’s Business School joining 4 the Kids SD board members to help distribute snacks to K–12 students at 12 schools.

This year’s Snack Attack served approximately 4,450 students. The effort comes at a time when many families in the region continue to face food insecurity, and classroom snacks play an important role in helping students stay focused and ready to learn.

“Hunger impacts students’ academic performance and harms their physical health, emotional well‑being, and overall development,” said Heather Pagel, President of 4 the Kids SD. “Classroom snacks provide quick, accessible energy between meals, helping maintain focus, stabilize mood, and support learning.”

Pagel also highlighted the long‑standing support of Farm Credit Services of America, which helped fund this year’s Snack Attack. “Farm Credit Services of America has been supporting us from the very beginning. Over the years, they have provided numerous grants and donations. Their most recent contribution helped fund snacks for our Snack Attack event. Community partners like Farm Credit Services play a vital role in ensuring our students have access to food while at school.”

“Hungry minds cannot learn, and empty stomachs should never stand in the way of a child’s future,” Pagel said. “We don’t just feed our students—we fuel their potential, their hope, and their ability to thrive.”
