Northeast Radio SD News - PASADENA, CA – Travel South Dakota’s entry in the 137th Rose Parade, titled “Carved in Stone; A Legacy of Teamwork,” has been honored with the prestigious Americana Award. The distinction recognizes the float as the most outstanding depiction of national treasures and traditions in the annual New Year’s Day event.
The award-winning float featured a massive floral recreation of Mount Rushmore National Memorial alongside other iconic symbols of the state, including the Dignity: Of Earth & Sky sculpture and thundering bison. The design was brought to life using more than 40,000 floral elements, including local agricultural staples such as corn, wheat, and sunflowers.

“As we kick off a new year and our nation’s 250th birthday, our goal is to share the bold spirit that defines South Dakota with millions of viewers around the world,” said James Hagen, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism. “This award is a testament to the incredible teamwork behind the float and to the iconic landmarks and cultural treasures that make South Dakota an unforgettable destination.”
The 2026 appearance marked the state’s second time participating in the parade, following its debut in 2016. This year’s entry served as the national kickoff for the United States’ 250th-anniversary celebrations.
In addition to the parade, Travel South Dakota maintained a presence in Pasadena throughout “Decorator’s Week,” hosting immersive experiences and social media activations to encourage West Coast travelers to consider South Dakota for future road trips.
The float was designed and constructed by Artistic Entertainment Services.
