Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced it will conduct sobriety checkpoints in 16 counties across the state during November. This proactive effort is designed to encourage responsible choices and prevent impaired driving on South Dakota roadways.

The checkpoints, which aim to deter drivers from operating a vehicle while intoxicated, are scheduled to take place in the following counties:

·         Beadle

·         Brown

·         Codington

·         Custer

·         Davison

·         Jackson

·         Lake

·         Lawrence

·         Lyman

·         Meade

·         Minnehaha

·         Moody

·         Pennington

·         Roberts

·         Stanley

The monthly checkpoint schedule is fully funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and executed by the Highway Patrol, often with assistance from local law enforcement agencies. Both the Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are agencies of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Officials remind all drivers never to drink and drive, regardless of whether a checkpoint is scheduled in their county. Those who plan to consume alcohol are strongly urged to take proactive measures, such as designating a sober driver or utilizing commercial or public transportation alternatives.
