South Dakota Highway Patrol Plans August Sobriety Checkpoints in Codington County and Across SD

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety checkpoints in 14 counties, including Codington, throughout the month of August as part of an ongoing statewide effort to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety.
Checkpoints are scheduled in the following counties: Brown, Beadle, Charles Mix, Codington, Fall River, Hughes, Hutchinson, Jones, Kingsbury, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Pennington, and Roberts.
The Highway Patrol says the monthly checkpoints are designed to discourage impaired driving and reinforce safe travel habits. Funding for the enforcement effort is provided by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety, with operations carried out in coordination with local law enforcement agencies across the state.
Officials are reminding motorists to make responsible choices and avoid driving after consuming alcohol, regardless of whether a checkpoint is planned in their area. Drivers who expect to drink are encouraged to arrange for a designated sober driver or use public or commercial transportation.
Both the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and the South Dakota Highway Patrol operate under the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
