South Dakota Highway Patrol Seeks Public Help in Fatal Hit-and-Run Investigation

Northeast Radio SD News – Sioux Falls, SD - The South Dakota Highway Patrol is requesting assistance from the public to identify a commercial vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run investigation.
Authorities have identified a “vehicle of interest” described as a red 2018 to 2023 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck. The vehicle is notably missing its passenger-side headlight.
The investigation stems from a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 90 near Humboldt at approximately 2:13 a.m. on January 3, 2026. According to preliminary reports, the semi was traveling eastbound from the Humboldt area following the incident. It may have utilized I-90, I-29, or other connecting roadways in the Sioux Falls region.
Investigators recently released an image of the truck captured on I-29 near 41st Street in Sioux Falls at approximately 2:25 a.m. on the night of the crash. At that time, the vehicle was traveling southbound.

How the Public Can Assist
The Highway Patrol is seeking any information, video footage, or photographs taken between 2:13 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on January 3 along the I-90 and I-29 corridors.
Citizens are also encouraged to visit the South Dakota Highway Patrol’s Facebook page to share the official post and increase visibility of the vehicle’s description.
