South Dakota Reports 83 Human West Nile Virus Cases and Four Deaths as of October 8

Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - The South Dakota Department of Health (SD-DOH) has reported a total of 83 human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) and four deaths statewide as of October 8.
The human cases have been identified across 31 counties, including Aurora, Beadle, Bon Homme, Brookings, Brown, Corson, Codington, Charles Mix, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Gregory, Haakon, Hamlin, Hand, Hughes, Hutchinson, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marshall, Meade, Miner, Minnehaha, Pennington, Roberts, Sanborn, Stanley, Spink, Todd, Yankton, and Walworth.

In addition to the confirmed human cases, the department noted:
· Nine human viremic blood donors have been identified in Brookings, Brown, Codington, Meade, Minnehaha, and Pennington counties.
· Seven counties—Beadle, Brown, Brookings, Codington, Hughes, Lincoln, and Minnehaha—have reported positive mosquito pools.
The news release also included data on the broader U.S. situation, indicating 1,433 WNV cases across 43 states and the District of Columbia as of October 7.
