Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - The South Dakota Transportation Commission has approved $4 million in economic development grants aimed at revitalizing essential infrastructure in counties and smaller communities across the state.

The awards, finalized during the commission’s meeting on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, target roadway improvements that support schools, business districts, hospitals, and agricultural hubs. These grants cover 80% of construction costs for selected projects, providing up to $600,000 per award.

Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt emphasized that these funds are a lifeline for the state’s smaller municipalities, which often face significant financial hurdles when maintaining the infrastructure necessary for growth.

“These economic development grants have proven to be a vital part of improving and strengthening our state’s infrastructure,” Jundt said. “Without the grant funds, many rural communities would not have the financial ability to foster economic development. Thankfully, these dollars will help position our local communities for long-term success.”

The funding is divided into two primary categories: Community Access Grants, which focus on municipal business and transit routes, and Agri-Business Grants, which support infrastructure leading to major agricultural production facilities.
