Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - A pair of fugitives who spent more than eight years evading authorities on human trafficking charges in South Dakota were arrested this week in Texas, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Sheilata Gordon, 49, and Myeshia Gordon‑Hughley, 53, were taken into custody on June 1 in Grand Prairie, Texas. Both had been wanted since 2017 after failing to appear in court on felony human trafficking charges filed in Hughes County.
According to the Marshals Service, the two women were originally arrested and made initial court appearances before being released on bond. They fled the state shortly afterward, and their whereabouts remained unknown for years.
Investigators later developed information indicating the pair had been hiding in Omaha, Nebraska. As authorities closed in, Gordon and Gordon‑Hughley fled again — this time to Texas. They were ultimately located at a hotel in Grand Prairie and arrested without incident.
The Marshals Service believes the fugitives lived in multiple states, including Florida and Nebraska, and used changed identities to avoid detection while on the run.
Both women are now awaiting extradition back to South Dakota to face their original charges.
The investigation involved U.S. Marshals Service personnel in South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Texas.
