Northeast Radio SD News – Lake Poinsett, SD - The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office recovered multiple stolen items and arrested two men last week after executing a search warrant at a camper near Lake Poinsett.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies received information on August 31 regarding the possible location of property reported stolen in mid‑July. A deputy conducted a follow‑up investigation and obtained a search warrant for a camper at the lake.
Investigators executed the warrant later that afternoon and recovered several items tied to the July theft report.
A 21‑year‑old Madison man was arrested and taken to the Brookings County Detention Center. He faces charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Petty Theft, and Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle.
A 28‑year‑old Brookings man was also charged with Possession of Stolen Property. Investigators say he purchased golf‑related items from the Madison man and later learned the items were stolen but did not notify law enforcement and kept the property.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active, and additional charges may be filed. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Officials thanked community members who provided information that helped deputies locate the stolen property.
