Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash Under Investigation in Watertown

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - A 22-year-old woman sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Watertown. The incident occurred in the 600 block of 9th Ave. SE (US Highway 212).


The Watertown Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 2:29 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025.


According to the initial investigation, a 22-year-old female from Peever, South Dakota, was crossing 9th Ave. SE northbound in the middle of the block when an eastbound 2008 Chevrolet Suburban hit her. A 71-year-old male resident of Watertown drove the Suburban.


The pedestrian was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital for treatment of severe, non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.


The Suburban was towed from the scene and sustained approximately $2,500 in damage.


The crash is currently under investigation by the Watertown Police Department, which received assistance from Watertown Fire Rescue at the scene. Traffic in the area was disrupted for approximately 45 minutes following the incident.
