Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce has officially launched a fundraising campaign titled “Thursday Night Live: A Future We Share,” aiming to address rising operational costs and ensure the longevity of the beloved summer concert series.

In a recent radio appearance, Chamber President and CEO Tim Sheehan and Director of Ag and Engagement Mackenzie Ries outlined the financial challenges facing the event. While “Thursday Night Live” has grown significantly since the Chamber took over operations in 2018—moving from downtown to the new Foundation Plaza—the cost of entertainment has skyrocketed.

“Back then, the bands were $500, maybe $700,” Sheehan explained. “Our average band cost is now about $3,000, and that’s with our sound.”

Last year, despite cutting the series down to eight events, the Chamber reported $36,000 in expenses and an $11,000 deficit, figures that do not account for staff time. To bridge this gap, the new campaign seeks to raise $30,000. This fund will not only cover immediate costs for upcoming seasons but also provide a financial cushion for future years.

“We ARE having Thursday Night Live for 2026,” Ries assured the community. “We’re just asking for the community’s help to share some of these costs and to keep it moving forward.”

How to Donate

Community members can donate via the Chamber’s website at watertownsd.com, through Venmo, or by mailing a check. The campaign features various contribution tiers with perks such as branded travel mugs and lawn chairs.

Sheehan also encouraged local businesses to consider sponsorships. By pooling smaller community donations, the Chamber hopes to lower the barrier for business sponsorships, potentially allowing companies to secure a $1,500-level exposure for a $500 investment. Sponsors gain opportunities to set up booths and engage directly with the 800 to 1,500 attendees that gather at the Plaza each week.

Upcoming Events: Winter Farm Show & Burger Battle

In addition to the fundraising launch, the Chamber highlighted the 81st Annual Winter Farm Show, taking place February 11-14 at the Extension building. The event will feature 177 cattle, a Lego contest, and free admission. A free shuttle service, provided by a Lake Area mini-bus, will run daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Residents are also reminded to participate in the ongoing 4th Annual Burger Battle, running through February 28, featuring 19 local burgers.
