Watertown City Council to Consider $438K John Deere Landfill Dozer Purchase

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown City Council will take up a routine but notable equipment purchase Monday night as part of its consent agenda: a bid award for a new John Deere 850 P landfill dozer for the city’s Solid Waste Division.
According to the agenda item submitted by City Manager Alan Stager, the city received two sealed bids on June 30 for the purchase of a new, unused, current‑model‑year dozer. The lowest responsible bid — and the one meeting all required specifications — came from RDO Equipment Co. of Sioux Falls at $438,378.35.
A second bid from Diesel Machinery, Inc. totaled $672,850.00, while the engineer’s estimate for the project was $450,000.00.
The dozer purchase was already budgeted in the city’s Solid Waste account 604.43240.43600 in the amount of $450,500.00, meaning the recommended bid comes in under budget.
Oversight for the project falls under Solid Waste Operations Supervisor Tim Bush, Operations Manager Ayrton Williams, and Wastewater & Solid Waste Superintendent Robert Dari.
The item will be part of Monday’s consent agenda during the July 20, 2026 City Council meeting.
