Watertown City Council to Consider Writing Off $133,672 in Old Sanitary Sewer Assessments

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown City Council will take up a consent‑agenda item Monday night that would formally write off $133,672.62 in long‑outstanding sanitary sewer assessments and cost recoveries.
City Manager Alan Stager submitted the request following discussion at the council’s June 29 work Session. According to the agenda document, the listed assessments meet the city’s criteria for removal from its special assessment receivable: they are either more than 25 years old or have balances under $2,500.
The write‑off list includes hundreds of individual assessments dating back as far as 1970, with additional entries from the late 1970s, early 1980s, 1990s, and two from 2024. The amounts range from under $100 to several thousand dollars.
The item carries no financial impact beyond updating the city’s accounting records.
Because the item is part of the consent agenda, it is expected to pass without discussion unless a council member requests it be pulled for separate consideration.
The Watertown City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
