Watertown Fire Rescue Responds to Late-Night Detached Garage Fire

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Emergency crews successfully contained a garage fire late Monday night after a neighbor spotted smoke and flames coming from a nearby property.
According to a media release issued by Watertown Fire Rescue, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from the observant neighbor on June 1st at approximately 11:45 p.m.. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders confirmed a fire was actively burning inside a detached garage located behind a local residence.
Firefighters moved quickly to attack the blaze. Thanks to their rapid intervention, crews brought the fire under control swiftly and prevented the flames from spreading to any adjacent homes or nearby structures.
After knocking down the main body of the fire, crews remained on the scene for an extended period. Firefighters conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and carefully inspected the surrounding property to confirm the fire had not extended beyond its area of origin.
The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and remains under active investigation.
The property owner was successfully notified of the incident while operations were underway, and later met with fire officials directly at the scene.
