Watertown Gears Up for Homecoming Week: Safety and Spirit Take Center Stage

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Homecoming Week kicks off Monday, September 22, and the Watertown Police Department is encouraging students, parents, and the broader community to celebrate safely while showing their Arrow pride.


The weeklong celebration includes performances, games, and community events, culminating in Friday’s parade, football game, and dance. In advance of the festivities, police issued a set of safety reminders aimed at promoting responsible behavior and positive engagement.


Guidance for Parents:


·        Be Present: Stay informed about your student’s plans and encourage sound decision-making

·        Set Expectations: Discuss curfews, transportation, and ground rules ahead of time

·        Keep the Conversation Open: Regular check-ins help students feel supported and safe


Advice for Students:


·        Make Safety a Priority: Stick with friends, stay aware, and look out for one another

·        Show Arrow Pride Respectfully: Celebrate with enthusiasm while respecting people and property

·        Balance Fun with Focus: Keep academics and commitments in view throughout the week


Homecoming Week Schedule:


·        Monday, Sept. 22 – 7:00 PM: Legend of the Arrows performance at the Arena

·        Thursday, Sept. 25 – 7:00 PM: Pep Rally, Powder Puff Game, and Burning of the “W”

·        Friday, Sept. 26:


o   2:00 PM: Homecoming Parade from WHS to Downtown Watertown

o   7:00 PM: Football Game vs. Douglas Patriots

o   After the Game: Homecoming Dance at WHS


Local officials emphasized the importance of community involvement and respectful celebration. “Let’s come together as a community, celebrate safely, and make this a Homecoming Week to remember,” the department posted.
