Watertown Man Injured in Single Vehicle Crash on 4th Avenue SW; 17-Month-Old Child Taken to Hospital with No Reported Injuries

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - A Watertown man was seriously injured Monday morning after his vehicle crossed into oncoming lanes and struck a tree on 4th Avenue SW, according to the Watertown Police Department.


Police and Watertown Fire Rescue were dispatched at 7:11 a.m. to the 300 block of 4th Avenue SW for a report of a single‑vehicle crash. Investigators say a 2013 Honda CR‑V was traveling westbound when it crossed over the eastbound lanes and collided with a tree on the south boulevard.


The 23‑year‑old male driver was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital with serious but non‑life‑threatening injuries.


A 17‑month‑old passenger was also taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police say the child was properly secured in a child safety seat and was not injured.

The driver’s seat belt use remains under investigation, and the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The incident remains under active investigation by the Watertown Police Department.


Traffic in the area was disrupted for about 30 minutes while crews responded. Agencies assisting at the scene included Watertown Police, Watertown Fire Rescue, and Performance Towing.


The Watertown Police Department is reminding drivers to wear seat belts at all times.
