Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Watertown Municipal Utilities (WMU) has announced it is in the process of transitioning to a new, modernized billing software system. While the upgrade is designed to improve the customer experience and provide clearer billing statements, the utility provider is alerting residents to several temporary changes and actions required during the transition period.
A New Look and Easier Access
Starting with the April billing cycle, customers will notice a refreshed design on their utility statements. The new format is intended to be more intuitive and easier to read.
One of the most significant digital upgrades is the addition of a QR code on the bill. Once scanned, this code will direct users immediately to the new Online Utility Billing Portal. Detailed instructions for using this new feature will be included in the April mailers.
Mandatory Re-Registration for Online Users
While the software upgrade brings new conveniences, it does require a one-time setup for existing digital customers. If you currently use online services, you will be required to re-register. This applies to customers who:
· Make payments through the utility’s 3rd party credit card processor.
· Access and view their payment or billing history online.
Additionally, every customer will be assigned a new account number. Residents should look in the top-right corner of their April bill to find their updated number, which will follow a new format (e.g., 012-123456-01).
Important Dates and Deadline Extensions
To accommodate the software migration, WMU has adjusted its typical schedule. While the due date remains the same, the utility is offering a “grace period” for April to ensure that no resident is penalized during the transition.
Event | Date / Detail |
April Bill Mailing | Slightly later than the typical schedule |
Payment Due Date | April 10th |
Late Penalties | NONE will be assessed for April bills |
Additional Fees | Resuming after 8:00 a.m. on April 29th |
No Action Needed for Bank Draft Customers
For residents enrolled in automatic bank draft or ACH payments, the transition will be seamless. WMU confirms that draft dates and payment amounts will remain unchanged, and no action is required from these customers.
