Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown SD - The spirit of giving and a healthy dose of friendly competition took center stage at the Watertown Municipal Utilities (WMU) Board meeting in late December. Staff members gathered to celebrate the results of an internal holiday food drive that successfully gathered nearly 3,000 items to benefit the local Salvation Army.

The initiative challenged various departments within the organization to stock the local food pantry’s shelves. While the primary goal was community support, the drive also fostered internal camaraderie as employees vied for the top spot in a departmental contest.

By the conclusion of the event, the turnout far exceeded initial expectations. The Electric Department secured the win, contributing an average of 101 items per employee.

WMU Board members praised the generosity and teamwork displayed throughout the drive. During the meeting, officials noted that the substantial donation would provide meaningful support for local families navigating the holiday season.

The success of the drive underscores a continued commitment to community engagement. By leveraging a bit of internal competition, the utility staff demonstrated how local organizations can make a tangible impact on food security in Watertown.
