Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - A 2.8-acre tract of land owned by the Benedictine Sisters of Mother of God Monastery is one step closer to joining the Watertown city limits following a unanimous Planning Commission recommendation.
The land, which will be known as the Harmony Hill Annexation Second Addition, is currently contiguous to the city limits but outside the corporate boundary.
Petitioner, Sister Barbara Younger, Prioress of the monastery, requested annexation and a concurrent zoning designation as R-1C (Compact Single Family Residential District).
“It's been part of our vision for many years now... to bring in single-family homes,” Sister Barbara Younger told the commission.
The proposal includes extending zoning to the centerline of adjacent rights-of-way. Staff noted that the property is not within a regulated floodplain and is consistent with the city’s long-term residential concept plan.
