Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The community’s holiday spirit is translating into major support for local organizations as the Watertown Area Community Foundation’s annual Christmas Tree Fundraiser enters its third week. As of the latest update, the festive competition has already generated $4,417 in donations to support the vital work of area non-profits.

Breaking Down the Leaderboard

With two weeks remaining in the “season of giving,” several organizations are seeing a surge in support at the Watertown Regional Library display:

·        Front-Runners: The Watertown Regional Library, Rachel’s Hope, and Watertown Cares have all crossed the $500 threshold, positioning them as early favorites for the top grant.

·        Gaining Momentum: Organizations like the Lake Area Zoological Society (Bramble Park Zoo) and Northern Prairie Arts are also seeing strong community backing, with both nearing the $400 mark.

·        Total Community Impact: The fundraiser has currently amassed over $4,400 across 15 participating groups, showcasing a wide range of support from human services to youth mentorship and the arts.

Why Every Vote Counts

The fundraiser is designed to maximize the impact of small, individual contributions. Every $1 vote cast is a direct donation to that non-profit. To further boost these efforts:

·        Foundation Match: The Watertown Area Community Foundation matches every dollar donated up to $300 per organization.

·        Bonus Grant: The organization that secures the most votes by the end of the month will receive an additional $500 unrestricted grant.

How to Get Involved

The display is open to the public during regular library hours through December 31. Visitors can view the creatively decorated trees—each reflecting its organization’s mission—and cast as many $1 votes as they wish.

New this year, families can participate in Christmas Tree Bingo, a fun way for people of all ages to learn more about the diverse nonprofits that make Watertown a stronger community.
