Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - As the snow melts and warmer weather approaches, the City of Watertown is preparing for the annual spring cleanup. The Public Works Department announced that curbside yard waste collection is set to resume the week of Monday, March 30, 2026.

Residents are encouraged to begin clearing their lawns of debris accumulated over the winter. To ensure a smooth start to the season, the city has provided the following guidelines for disposal:

·         Acceptable Materials: The green 95-gallon containers are designated specifically for grass clippings, leaves, and small yard debris.

·         Collection Schedule: Residents should set their green containers out on their regularly scheduled collection day.

·         Placement: To assist automated pickup, containers should be placed on the boulevard—not in the curb—with the handles facing toward the house.

Need a Container?

For those who do not yet have a yard waste container, the City offers them for purchase. Residents can order a 95-gallon bin at any time through the City’s online landfill store at www.watertownsd.us/landfill. According to current city fee schedules, these containers are available to city residents for $61.68 plus tax.

The Public Works Department reminds citizens that keeping yard waste out of standard trash bins helps the city manage landfill space more efficiently and supports local composting efforts.
