Watertown Rollover Crash Leads to DUI Arrest After Four Vehicles Damaged Near 3rd Avenue NE and 19th Street NE

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - A 20‑year‑old Estelline man was arrested late Friday night after a rollover crash in northeast Watertown that damaged four vehicles and disrupted traffic for more than an hour, according to a media release from the Watertown Police Department.


Police and Watertown Fire Rescue were dispatched at 11:08 PM to the intersection of 3rd Avenue NE and 19th Street NE for a report of a rollover. Investigators determined that a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on 3rd Avenue NE near 17th Street NE when it struck two parked, unoccupied vehicles — a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 2007 GMC Sierra.

The Silverado continued eastbound and hit a third parked vehicle, a 2002 Buick Century, pushing it into a boulevard tree. The Buick then rolled onto its roof and came to rest in the roadway. The Silverado became disabled in the intersection of 3rd Avenue NE and 19th Street NE.


The driver was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital for evaluation and later arrested on multiple charges, including DUI 1st, Reckless Driving, Underage Consumption of Alcohol, and Underage Possession of Tobacco.

Three of the four vehicles involved were towed from the scene. Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes while crews cleared the roadway.


Responding agencies included the Watertown Police Department, Watertown Fire Rescue, Codington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Performance Towing.


Police reminded the public of the dangers of impaired driving and noted that all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
