Watertown’s 2025 Virtual “Candy Cane Lane” Tour Debuts with Local 1991 Soundtrack

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The holiday spirit has been captured on film as the 2025 Virtual “Candy Cane Lane” Tour officially launched today, offering a digital front-row seat to the community’s most festive residential light displays.

Produced by Northeast Media SD, an extension of Northeast Radio SD, the video is the culmination of a multi-day effort to document the city’s holiday decorations. Following community nominations, Kathryn and Steve Hoyer spent several days scouting and filming the addresses residents suggested to ensure the “magic and glow” of the season was preserved for a wider audience.

A Historic Musical Tribute

A standout feature of this year’s tour is its audio accompaniment. The video is set to an original song titled “Candy Cane Lane,” a local piece of history recorded in Watertown in 1991 by the 921 Band.

The track was salvaged and digitized from a cassette tape provided by Ed Woodruff, who wrote the music and performed lead vocals and guitar. The 1991 recording features a full lineup of local talent:

  • Ed Woodruff: Words, Music, Lead Vocals, Guitar

  • Al Mevissen: Guitar, Vocals

  • Ed Barthel: Autoharp, Guitar

  • Dan Warhol: Bass

  • Darrell Jurgensen: Drums

  • Bob Anderson: Pedal Steel

Interactive Community Effort

While the video is now live, organizers emphasize that the project remains a community collaboration. Residents who notice a missing “must-see” display or wish to have their own home featured are encouraged to reach out. Photos sent via direct message or email to contact@northeastradiosd.com can still be integrated into the project to expand the virtual tour.

The production serves as a showcase for Northeast Media SD’s commitment to highlighting local culture and community milestones. Jurrens expressed hope that the video would serve as a definitive look at the holiday efforts in Watertown and encouraged viewers to share the content to support local music and festive traditions.

The entire tour is currently available to view on Northeast Radio SD’s social media channels.
