Watertown's Own "Chester" Rocks Northeast Radio SD Studio

WATERTOWN, S.D. – Watertown’s music scene recently got a boost when the local alternative band Chester took to the airwaves, performing original tracks live in the Northeast Radio SD studio. The youthful trio, composed of Jaden (drums), Keegan (bass), and Quade (lead/songwriter), demonstrated their high-energy style, rooted primarily in 90s alternative and classic rock influences.

The band, which has been playing together for just under a year, shared the story of their formation at Lake Area Technical College and their rapid start performing publicly.

“We’re pretty close to a year now,” said Jaden, noting that their first public appearances included short sets at the Red Rooster in Aberdeen and the community plaza center downtown in Watertown last July.

Style and Influences

Chester defines their sound as Alternative, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists. Quade, the band's primary songwriter, channels 90s alternative bands like Hum, Failure, and Slint. Bassist Keegan brings a foundation in classic rock, including Dire Straits, while Jaden credits the Red Hot Chili Peppers for his dynamic drumming style.

They performed three original songs during the broadcast:

• "Randy"

• "Raking the Leaves" (during which a drumstick was broken mid-song, adding a memorable, rock-and-roll moment)

• "Blue Nest" (noted as a band favorite for its strong bass line)

Looking Ahead

The band, which is currently focused on recording new material, encourages fans to follow their progress online. While they do not have a next gig officially scheduled yet, they mentioned the possibility of playing at the local venue Sidetrack soon.
