Watertown’s Prairie Lakes Ice Arena to Host National APWA Roadshow Highlighting Public Works Excellence

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown will host a national engineering and public works showcase next month as the American Public Works Association (APWA) Roadshow makes a stop at the award‑winning Prairie Lakes Ice Arena.
The event is scheduled for August 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena. City officials, state leaders, project partners, and community members are invited to attend.
The Roadshow is visiting Watertown to highlight the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena as an example of excellence in public infrastructure, recognizing the teamwork behind the project’s design, construction, and community impact.
Celebrating Strong Infrastructure
The Engineering & Public Works Roadshow is a national initiative created by three major organizations:
· American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)
· American Public Works Association (APWA)
· American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
Together, these groups represent the engineers who design infrastructure, the firms that employ them, and the public works agencies that maintain it.
The Roadshow’s mission is to remind the public and policymakers that well‑designed infrastructure is essential to daily life — from transportation and communication to clean water and reliable energy. Organizers say infrastructure often goes unnoticed unless it fails, and the Roadshow aims to highlight the value of projects that work seamlessly.

Highlighting the Built Environment
The organizations behind the Roadshow describe the “built environment” as the full network of structures and systems that support modern life — homes, businesses, roads, bridges, transit, water systems, and communication networks.
The Prairie Lakes Ice Arena project is being recognized as a standout example of how thoughtful engineering and public works investment can strengthen a community.
The City of Watertown says everyone is welcome to attend the August 12 celebration.
