Watertown School District Announces Early Dismissal, Homecoming Week Schedule, BISCO Competition, and October Board Meeting Change

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Superintendent Dr. Jeff Danielsen briefed the Watertown School Board Monday night on several upcoming district events, including the first early dismissal of the year, Homecoming Week activities, ASBSD regional meetings, and changes to October board scheduling.

First Early Dismissal Set for September 23

Danielsen reminded families and staff that the district’s first early dismissal of the school year will take place Wednesday, September 23.

Homecoming Week: September 28 – October 2

Danielsen outlined the full schedule for Homecoming Week, noting that activities begin Monday, September 28 and continue through Friday, October 2.

Key events include:

· Monday, Sept. 28 — The Legend 7:00 p.m.

· Thursday, Oct. 1 — Powder Puff Football 6:00 p.m., followed by the pep rally

· Friday, Oct. 2 — Early Dismissal & Parade Early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. Parade at 2:00 p.m.

· Arrowhead Tailgate 5:00 p.m. inside the Allen Mitchell Athletic Complex

· Homecoming Football Game 7:00 p.m.

New Homecoming Window Decorating Contest

Danielsen announced a new addition to Homecoming Week: a window decorating contest sponsored by BISCO.

Local businesses are invited to decorate their storefront windows by Friday, September 25. Watertown High School seniors will vote on the winner.

Danielsen added with a smile that “rumor has it” there may be a live report featuring Dr. D delivering a pizza party to the winning business.

“We’re excited to give this a shot and generate a little more fun and festivity for Homecoming Week,” he said.

ASBSD Regional Meetings

Danielsen told board members he had emailed information about upcoming ASBSD regional meetings. Board members interested in attending should notify him so he can complete registration.

Joint Meeting With LATC — October 26

Danielsen confirmed that the joint work session with Lake Area Technical College’s Strategic Advisory Council is scheduled for October 26, coinciding with the Higher Learning Commission’s 10‑year review.

The tentative plan:

· Joint meeting at LATC — approximately 12:00–2:00 p.m.

· District fall planning meeting — 2:00–4:00 p.m. at the district office

Danielsen said the district will publish the official public notice once the commission’s schedule is finalized.

October Board Meeting Date Change

Due to the Native American Day holiday, the board’s regular second‑Monday meeting will move to:

· Tuesday, October 13 at 5:30 p.m.
