Northeast Radio SD News - Wilmot, SD - The Wilmot School District has announced the forfeiture of its upcoming varsity football matchup against Britton-Hecla. The decision was made to prioritize the health and safety of the school's student-athletes, according to a district release.
Wilmot Athletic Director Grant Hanson stated in the release that the decision was made following discussions with Coach Gibson and Mr. Olson. Mr. Hanson also confirmed that the school has communicated the forfeiture to Britton-Hecla and is in contact with the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) to ensure all necessary protocols are being followed.
Although the game against Britton-Hecla has been canceled, the Wilmot varsity football program plans to proceed with its final home game against GPL. The district noted that should this plan change, updates would be immediately communicated to players, families, and fans, including any changes to parents' night information.
The district also confirmed that the junior high football season is now concluded. The decision was made not to play the scheduled junior high games against Britton-Hecla or the junior high home game versus GPL, citing "similar concerns" regarding health and safety.
