LATC Concludes 60th Anniversary Tailgate Tour, Awards Scholarship and MVP Honor

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Lake Area Technical College (LATC) recently wrapped up its 60th Anniversary Tailgate Tour across the region. The tour concluded Thursday night at the Milbank vs. Madison high school football game, which included a scholarship presentation and the recognition of an outstanding student-athlete.


Liam Street, a junior at Milbank High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Lake Area Technical College in Watertown. The scholarship was presented by Tracy Buisker, Executive Director of the LATC Foundation.

On the field, Henry Veenhof, a sophomore quarterback for Madison, was named the game’s MVP. Veenhof received a commemorative football from LATC Agriculture Instructor and former NFL player Spencer Waege.


The Tailgate Tour celebrated the college's six decades of success in preparing students for high-demand technical careers.

"At Lake Area Tech, we believe education extends beyond the classroom," said LATC President Tiffany Sanderson. "This tour was a fun way to connect with communities in our area, support student-athletes, and showcase the fast and focused education available to students interested in jumpstarting their careers.”


Throughout the tour, LATC staff and students traveled nearly 1,000 miles, attended 10 high school football games, and awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships. A total of 10 student-athletes were recognized for their performance, and over 600 cups of free popcorn were distributed.


Lake Area Technical College, established in Watertown in 1965, was South Dakota’s first technical college. It currently offers more than 30 programs to nearly 2,700 students.
