Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Goss Opera House once again hosted one of its most meaningful youth events of the year as second‑grade students from across the community came together for the annual Beads on One String celebration, a program centered on kindness, inclusion, and the idea that every person is connected.
The event, held on Tuesday, April 14, 2025, invited students to decorate a single wooden bead—an activity inspired by musician and author Dennis Warner, whose nationally recognized Beads On One String program has been used in schools across the country to promote empathy, positive behavior, and community building. After decorating their beads, students add them to a collective strand that becomes a powerful visual symbol: many unique individuals, all connected.
Organizers say the moment the beads come together is one of the most moving parts of the experience, offering strong visual storytelling opportunities for photos and video.
“This event is incredibly special for the kids and for our community,” said Jamie Mack, Executive Director of the Goss Opera House. “It’s a chance to watch young students express creativity, learn about kindness, and see how their individual contributions become part of something bigger.”
Beads On One String, which also operates as a nonprofit foundation, promotes unity and connectedness through music, art, and education. The organization’s book and school programs have been widely adopted by educators, counselors, and character‑education initiatives nationwide.
